Drakenstein is in the Western Cape, in the South Western part of South Africa.

The Municipality is within relatively close proximity to key areas in the tourist areas of the Western Cape. The recommended route from Cape Town is the N1 national road. From Cape Town, travel time is approximately 55 minutes. Franschhoek is 15 minutes away, while travel time to Stellenbosch is 25 minutes. The CapeTown International Airport is 45 minutes drive. Flying time to Johannesburg is two hours. Flights to Durban take two hours. Port Elizabeth is an hour, fifteen minutes by air.
