Inter-Governmental Relations Unit 

Intergovernmental Relations:

  • Engagement of National, Provincial, District and Local Government and organized local government through support and provision of co-ordination; resources; information and research.
  • Collate and develop understanding of the legal framework with regard to National, Provincial, District and Local government.
  • Develop lines with communication between different spheres of government with regard to areas of interest of the municipality.
  • Develop lines of communication internally and make all departments aware of the services the Intergovernmental Relations unit provides.
  • Support the implementation of the strategic priorities for Drakenstein Municipality.

International Relations:

  • Facilitate global networking and international co-operation processes in consultation with the Department of Foreign Affairs (inclusive of Consular and Diplomatic Corps) 
  • Develop and facilitate international co-operation agreements, and ensure that the provincial government fulfills its obligations in this regard 
  • Provide advice and support to Executive Management i.r.o their role and responsibilities relating to protocol matters 
  • Supervision 
  • Operational planning and work organization of the unit 
  • Unit work organizing 
  • Unit operational planning 
  • Directorate strategic planning participation 
  • Manage the staff of the Unit 
  • Staff performance 
  • Training and development 
  • Staff planning (recruitment, selection, leave management, well-being, etc) 
  • Financial management of the Unit 
  • Provide inputs into the compilation the unit's budget 
  • Monitor and control the expenditure of the Unit.


Knowledge Management:

  • Ensure the development, implementation and maintenance of knowledge management in the Province
  • Identify, nurture and support formal and informal network which support the core business of the organization 
  • Improve existing processes and identify new processes which re-enforce a knowledge-sharing culture 
  • Ensure that institutional knowledge is factored into learning processes and interventions 
  • Provide advice on access to and on human capital knowledge management in the Province 
  • Support development and maintenance of knowledge management databases 
  • Provide and facilitate support and training in respect of knowledge management
  • Ensure and support project roll-outs 
  • Operational planning of unit's work.
