Paarl is the economic centre of Drakenstein and the Cape Winelands. The maintenance and improvement of the infrastructure of the Paarl CBD is of critical importance to avoid the relocation of existing and the attraction of new business. For this reason council has entered into a partnership with businesses to upgrade the Paarl CBD.

The Paarl Waterfront Development is a key catalytic project to grow the tourism sector in Drakenstein. The construction of a mixed use development, located on the Berg River and incorporating a hotel development, will provide an world-class destination for tourist.
