Environmental
| The main function of the Environmental Management Section (EMS) is to provide environmental management support to the rest of the municipality and the community of Drakenstein.
To achieve this the following activities are engaged in:
- input is made to all applications for development (sub-divisions, rezonings, building plans, etc), monitor activities that may have an impact on the environment (noise, air quality, illegal landfill, etc),
- initiate law enforcement action in the cases of non-compliance,
- one of the most important functions is the aspect of environmental education (this includes dissemination of information to school learners, undergraduate and post graduate students, placement of information in news letters and on the internet and participation in environmental awareness raising campaigns), and
- the development of policy, guidelines and legislation.
