Council adopted a Local Economic Development Strategy in 2007 which is currently in a review process.
The aim of this process is to ensure that the Municipality aligns its Local Economic Development goals
with the long term strategic goals of the Western Cape Government specifically focusing on the Provincial Strategic Goal 1: to facilitate Economic Growth and Job creation.
Once completed the strategy would have addressed the following critical areas:
- A focus on our strategic sectors which include Agriculture, Agro-Processing, Tourism and Manufacturing;
- Facilitate Ease of doing Business through our Red Tap Reduction Programme;
- Enhance Skills Development initiatives to meet the needs of the Private Sector;
- Ensure that the Municipality adequate infrastructure to promote our area’s investment readiness.
This process forms part of an integrated long-term development plan for Drakenstein Municipality.
