The Southern Paarl Precinct has been one of the areas that needs urgent revitalization. The area is characterized by a huge heritage component that entails buildings with immeasurable historic value. This aesthetic value to be retained should play a major role in transforming the precinct. In addition the developers are of the intention to provide a considerable amount of housing opportunities for both the low and middle income groups. Three properties including the Station Hotel have already been acquired by the developers for restoration and development to the satisfaction of the Advisory Committee on Town Aesthetics and Management. The project is supported in principle due to the fact that the development would address the revitalization of the area, the preservation of the heritage of the area where suitable and necessary, and to address to a certain extent the huge housing need that exists in Drakenstein currently.
