On Human Rights Day, Monday 22 March victims of the recent devastating fire in Disa Street, Klein Nederburg, Paarl, received donations from the Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, Alderman Conrad Poole, at a handover ceremony at the Civic Centre.

 

The Executive Mayor thanked local businessman Mr Own Fang, owner of WellSave Supermarket in Paarl, for his kind assistance and said this is a good example of Ubuntu in action.

Ward Councillor Laurichia Van Niekerk invited the affected families to attend the handover ceremony.

Mr Fang was accompanied by Zhikun Shi, Wenzhu Lin, Qiang Liang and Jianzhong Yan. They donated food parcels to the nine affected families, comprising 42 people altogether.

The families were very grateful and thanked Mr. Fang and his team for their generous donation of food parcels, personal hygiene packs, pillow cases, blankets and clothes.

They also thanked Alderman Poole for caring for the community and assisting them in their hour of need. Each family received two food parcel packs.

Councillor Van Niekerk thanked everyone involved and said the donations were much needed.
