Around 150 Drakenstein educators who excelled in their various subjects were recognised this week at the Mayoral Education Excellence Awards. The event in the Paarl Town Hall was hosted by Councillor Conrad Poole, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein, in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Education.
Drakenstein is home to some of South Africa's top schools. "Drakenstein Municipality considers it important to recognise teachers who are committed to educating children, teachers who are dedicated to the development of children’s future and who has an overall positive impact on their lives," says Executive Mayor Poole.
"The Municipality wishes to congratulate educators who received awards at this function and looks forward to maintaining an excellent education standard in Drakenstein. This we can only achieve through the assistance of these educators and others like them, whose aim it is to achieve exceptional results," he says.
At the Mayoral Education Excellence Awards, Debbie Schäfer, Provincial Minister of Education, delivered a keynote address while Jeremy Fredericks, SuperSport commentator and the evening's programme director, as well as the different schools provided entertainment. This included a duet by scholars from Labori High School, dance items by Klein Nederburg Secondary School and a string orchestra ensemble by Paarl Gimnasium High School.
