Embracing the new normal and its accelerated move to online platforms, Drakenstein Municipality is launching its brand new electronic newsletter, called Vars, this week. The trilingual e-newsletter – a blend of fresh, relevant and on point news – will be distributed monthly via email to residents and businesses across Drakenstein.
Vars will be a blend of municipal news; relevant Council decisions; profiling of wards; useful tips for businesses and residents; and stories about community and municipal staff members who are making a real difference. It will also feature a message by Alderman Conrad Poole, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, and include links to the latest municipal tenders, notices and job listings – all in an appealing digital package.
“We are really excited to be introducing Vars, and trust it will be a valuable and dynamic source of news and information for all our residents,” says Executive Mayor Poole. “The world is changing fast; so is the way people and organisations are communicating. We believe a digital newsletter with stories in Afrikaans, English and Xhosa will be able to reach larger parts of our community.”
As part of Drakenstein Municipality’s integrated digital communication strategy, Vars will complement the Municipality’s other external communication platforms, such as its social media pages (Facebook, Instagram and YouTube), the municipal website and its bulk SMS system.
“We believe Vars is a smart solution and the right next step in our communication strategy roll-out,” says Dr Johan Leibbrandt, City Manager of Drakenstein Municipality. “The e-newsletter is more personal, targeted and accessible to everyone.”
Vars will be issued once a month to a targeted email database, with the first issue due to go out on Friday, 31 July 2020. Anyone who would like to subscribe to and receive Vars, can email their details to firstname.lastname@example.org. Vars will also be available on www.drakenstein.gov.za.
