Drakenstein Municipality reiterates that all Drakenstein schools, clubs and sport codes that previously used or want to use Faure Street Stadion in Paarl, will still be able to do so – regardless of the outcome of a Council decision of whether or not to render La Rochelle Girl’s High School right of use, mainly for athletics training.
La Rochelle will not take over the stadium or rent it, but merely enjoy right of use. For all other schools, clubs and sport codes it will be business as usual; their usage patterns will not be restricted, emphasises the Municipality.
The possible right of use agreement follows thorough prior consultation with all sport codes currently using Faure Street Stadium, including rugby. This process was facilitated by Councillor Laurichia van Niekerk (Councillor for Sport, Relaxation, Arts and Culture) and Gary Boshoff, Executive Director: Community Services at Drakenstein Municipality. All sport codes involved, as well as La Rochelle, have agreed that – should such a decision be made – the stadium will be available for everyone, including other schools.
It is important to note that Drakenstein Municipal Council has not taken a final decision in this regard. A public participation process is currently taking place after which all comments will be tabled and considered before a final decision will be taken.
