Fire and Rescue

​Mission:

“To serve our community by providing effective emergency response services and quality prevention and education programmes that will minimize the loss of life and property resulting from fires and other emergencies" Drakenstein Fire Department Direction Strategy 2015 – 2020 considering the Municipal key Performance Areas, the Drakenstein Fire and Rescue Service has its own output group that likes core functions with outcomes.

Department structure and Functions

Fire and Rescue Services is organized into four divisions. Each division has functional sections which are responsible for the accomplishment of specific functional goals and objectives.

  • Fire Safety and Support Services

Management and Administration

  • Responsible for all Management and Administration functions
  • Budget Management, human resource management
  • Establishing organizational principles and processes
  • Provide motivation and discipline
  • Ensure excellence of service delivery and a safe and healthy environment for all communities.
  • Strategic Management.

Operations

  • Ensure 24 hour uninterrupted fire and rescue response to all members of the community
  • Functions include fire suppression, technical rescues, hazardous material and urban search and rescue response services, medical response services, operational risk familiarisation and rendering humanitarian services.
  • Primarily responsible for professional and continual skills development and for the achievement of Disaster Risk Management planning and preparedness objectives.

Training

  • Accredited training centre: Drakenstein Fire Training centre: (SAESI)
  • Develop, conduct and evaluate professional fire fighter training for professional fire fighters, ( own and other fire services )
  • Public and Life safety awareness and training.

Disaster  Risk management

  • Render disaster management service
  • Regular review and update of disaster management plan and strategies
  • Community risk assessments
  • Establish Disaster management centre.
  • Inter departmental disaster management coordination

Safety and Support Services

  • Conduct fire safety and fire risk inspections within buildings,  premises plants, industry  and events etc. to ensure compliance in terms of legislation.
  • Scrutinisation of building plans to ensure compliance.
  • Manage the process of overgrown plots.
  • Operate a 24/7 communication and control centre.
