Water

90% of Wellington’s water demand is bought from the City of Cape Town’s Wemmershoek Dam, with the balance being supplied from Drakenstein Municipality’s own Antoniesvlei/ Withoogte scheme in Bainskloof. Saron’s water supply comes from the Leeu River in the mountains east of the town. Gouda’s water demand is bought from the West Coast District Municipality’s Swartland Treatment Works, which is supplied with water from the Voëlvlei Dam.

Bacteriological analysis of the water is carried out bi-weekly, and chemical analysis is carried out monthly. Samples are taken at 35 points, including the bulk reservoirs and critical points in the water network.

The complaints desk of the Civil Engineering Services Department includes amongst others the Waterworks and Sewerage sections. From the complaints desk, an official responsible for the specific task will be contacted by radio. All complaints are captured into a database for monitoring and analysis purposes.
