               Executive Deputy Mayor:
               Alderman Gert Combrink

Gert is married to Hantie and they have three children. After completing her Higher Diploma in Hospitality Management, Magriet caught a serious case of wanderlust. She has worked in various hotels and resorts through Scotland, Wales, England, Switzerland and Germany. At present, she is the Reception and Conference Manager for a commercial law firm in Düsseldorf.

Willemien is an Advanced Dermal Aesthetician working in the field of Medical Aesthetics at SkinView Medical Aesthetics in Langebaan, and her husband, Heinrich Boock is a Dentist in Vredenburg. Stephan is a software engineer working on mobile apps, simulation, and custom solutions in the software & electronic engineering fields. His wife Bianca is a medical doctor in the Swellendam hospital.

Gert led the team at Casidra as General Manager for 19 years, specialising in the areas of rural and entrepreneurial development. One of the highlights of his career was the successful establishment of a Jersey dairy in Kranshoek. He regards the entire project as being a successful one, but the empowerment of the Griqua community to take over and the continued successful running thereof by the community stands out to him in particular. During his involvement with the Kranshoek Jersey project, Gert was elected as a trustee on the Griqua Community Trust by the Griqua Community of Kranshoek.

Over the years, Gert has fulfilled several leadership positions at community level. These include being elected as:

    • Chairperson and Treasurer of the La Rochelle Girls’ High School Governing Body
    • Chairperson of the Ruyswyck Trust of the La Rochelle Girls’ High School
    • Chairperson of the Strooidak Church Financial Commission
    • Treasurer of the Courtrai Primary School Governing Body.

Having taken early retirement, Gert decided to enter the political arena to enable him to further serve the community and to make a difference at grassroot level.

Gert and Hantie are active nature lovers and frequently go camping in the wilderness, which includes South African National Parks. They also have extensively toured and camped in Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. Their preferred camping spots in Namibia in particular include community camps, as this help bring tourism income in to the pockets of the local community, rather than into the pockets of multi-national companies.

Being Honorary Rangers for SANPARKS, Gert and Hantie are ploughing back their energy, knowledge and time to assist in making a small but vital difference in the upkeep of two of our truly special National Parks namely Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park  and Tankwa Karoo National Park.
