Drakenstein Municipality's Fire and Rescue Services has welcomed a new major pumper to our fleet – a powerful addition to our existing firefighting capacity.
The new pumper, capable of pumping more than 3 850 litres of water per minute and carrying 3 000 litres of water plus a 200-litre foam tank, joins three other robust firefighting vehicles added to our fleet in the past 18 months – marking a major investment in community safety.
This fully automatic 4x4 vehicle can manage most terrain and is equipped to deal with both fire and rescue emergencies. It is also equipped with two hose reels and a deck monitor (mounted water gun) with water and foam capacity, and a 360-degree rotation. In addition to normal portable lighting, the entire length of the superstructure is fitted with LED light bars on either side to illuminate night scenes.
Executive Mayor, Councillor Stephen Korabie, emphasised that this bold new addition to the fleet will add value to its existing capacity. He thanked the Fire and Rescue Services teams for their dedication and swift response times, saying Drakenstein Municipality's reputation for quick and effective responses gives residents confidence.
Wildfire season extended
The Western Cape wildfire season has been extended to an eight-month high alert period. Drakenstein Municipality's Fire and Rescue Services is preparing for this period.
We call on all residents, mountain and reserve trail users, and stakeholders to remain vigilant, follow the strict ban on flames and smoking in the outdoors, and report any smoke or fires immediately. Additionally, given the expected heat over the next months, general fire safety is encouraged.
