TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
More residents from Drakenstein Municipality are taking it upon themselves to clean and beautify their neighbourhoods and recently Mr Aldin Nyman from Hanover Street, Van Wyksvlei, Wellington, took the lead in such a project.
Christephine Kearns, Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Parks, Environment and Open Spaces, praised the residents for the part they play in fighting the scourge of illegal dumping and for beautifying their neighbourhood.
“It is important that residents take responsibility for their neighbourhood and take care of the environment. We all deserve to live in a clean and healthy environment and we need residents to work with the Municipality to make that possible. Together we can make a difference.”
She says what happens here is proof of that. “The residents contacted me for some plants and requested that our Solid Waste Department cleans the corridor. We helped them and when the community saw Mr. Nyman was busy cleaning some of them joined in.
“Now they are busy with a second passageway too. We are planning to donate plants to them. Every household provides water from time to time. We want to encourage other residents to do the same in their areas.”
