Drakenstein Municipality reminds residents to settle outstanding debt

Drakenstein Municipality wishes to thank all our consumers who diligently pay their consumer accounts.

19 January 2022 | Press Releases

Drakenstein Municipality wishes to thank all our consumers who
diligently pay their consumer accounts. We are fully aware that some of
our consumers are facing tough economic challenges due to COVID-19. The
Municipality reminds consumers that they can, as was already the case
before the pandemic and lockdown, structure an acceptable payment
arrangement with the Municipality in terms of our Customer Care, Credit
Control and Debt Collection policy.

These payment arrangements
can be done via email at customercare@drakenstein.gov.za or by visiting
the municipal offices. Enquiries can also be directed to 080 131 3553
toll free or customercare@drakenstein.gov.za.

Furthermore, the
Municipality wishes to inform consumers that the due date for consumer
account payments was 17 January 2022. All consumers with an outstanding
debt of R100 and more will now be subjected to credit control and debt
collection processes, which include the blocking of electricity.

The
blocking of electricity does not entail a complete disconnection, but
instead, the purchase of electricity is divided between electricity
units and debt reduction - according to percentages approved by the
Municipality’s Customer Care, Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy.

The
Municipality usually sends reminders via SMS to all consumers in
arrears two days before the payment due date of each month. These
reminders were sent to consumers on 14 January 2022.
