18 July 2024This Mandela Day, Drakenstein Municipality's libraries have been bringing warmth to our communities, both young and old.
📚 Paarl: In partnership with 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, they served the community with warm soup, and also handed out scarves and beanies to fend off the cold.
📚 Wellington: Their soup-for-lunch initiative warmed both hearts and stomachs. Yesterday, the Readers Library in Wellington handed out hand-knitted hats to the little ones (2-5 years old) at Voor Groenberg Crèche. Upcoming activities include handing over knitted bears to the South African Police Service Trauma Unit on 31 July. Tomorrow, Wellington Library will donate books to the Hawequa Prison and on 24 July, they are planning a sanitary drive for teens in the community.
📚 Klein Drakenstein: Teaming up with Help2Read, the library engaged kids aged 6-13 with stories about Nelson Mandela's life, a stage performance, and a fun quiz.
📚 Simondium: The kids enjoyed the story of "Meneer Haas ontmoet Meneer Mandela" along with fun colouring and other entertaining activities.
