 | Drakenstein Municipality assures customers prepaid electricity meters have been successfully reset
19 September 2024 | Press Releases |
Drakenstein Municipality, covering Paarl, Wellington, Mbekweni, Gouda, Saron, Hermon and Simondium in the Western Cape, has assured municipal customers in Drakenstein that it has successfully completed their prepaid electricity meters' formal auditing process.
There are now only a few meters outstanding in the Drakenstein area, which the Municipality has soft-locked as its meter auditors could not access these homes. Most of these homeowners live abroad and the Municipality will assist them when they return to the country.
As part of the auditing process the prepaid electricity meters were reset, which means that Drakenstein's municipal customers will be able to purchase electricity without any hassles after November 2024. Resetting was necessary because, by November this year, the encryption key numbers in prepaid electricity meters are set to expire. Failure to reset these key numbers before the November deadline would have resulted in customers not being able to buy electricity.
“The Municipality started with this auditing process already in November 2019. We want to thank the community of Drakenstein for assisting us by granting our meter auditors access to their residences or businesses to inspect the effectiveness of their prepaid meters, and to reset them," said Councillor Stephen Korabie, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality.
Please note that the above information does not apply to prepaid meters of direct Eskom customers (residing in areas such as Saron, Gouda and Hermon), as Eskom is responsible for resetting those.
If Drakenstein Municipality customers have any questions about their prepaid electricity meters' resetting or would like to check whether their meters have indeed been reset, they can contact Charles Fortuin at 021 807 4538 or Riaan Brandt at 021 807 4887.
