Drakenstein Municipality’s EPWP section raises the bar with new project inspections

20 September 2024 | Press Releases

Drakenstein Municipality's Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) stepped up its game with the introduction of new project inspection measures. These measures, including self-audits, pre-arranged project inspections and unannounced project visits, ensure that work is carried out efficiently and safely. This renewed focus on productivity is bringing great results.

Three types of project inspections and audits are conducted:

Self-audit check sheet

This self-assessment tool helps implementing departments monitor employee productivity, improves supervision, and checks the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools.

Pre-arranged project inspections and audits

Scheduled site visits are conducted to review contract administration, recordkeeping, safety compliance, supervision, scheduling of activities, productivity, availability of tools and PPE.

Unannounced project visits

Impromptu visits ensure work allocation, safety procedures and worker productivity are up to standard.

The project inspection check sheets are approved by the EPWP office representative and implementing department's project manager. Findings and non-compliance issues are reported to the relevant senior management for corrective action during the next site check.

With approximately 30 project audits performed monthly, the Municipality is committed to ensuring that the EPWP workforce is productive and contributing to the community.
