KC107.7, the leading community broadcaster in the Greater Paarl valley, is thrilled to announce Nedbank as the main sponsor for the station's inaugural “Councillor of the Year Award” for Drakenstein Municipality.
This prestigious award, launched in August 2024, aims to celebrate councillors who excel in serving their communities, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Development Plan (NDP). The involvement of Nedbank, a key player in sustainable development and community empowerment, further strengthens the initiative’s commitment to fostering active citizenship and local governance.
Drakenstein Municipality, one of South Africa's top-rated secondary cities, has 65 councillors representing a population of nearly 305,000. The award seeks to recognise outstanding service, transparency, and accountability in local government.
The announcement of Nedbank as the primary sponsor enhances the award's impact by emphasising sustainable development through leadership. As part of their contribution, Nedbank will work alongside councillors to implement community-driven initiatives focused on environmental conservation, economic growth, and social development. The sponsorship will also support a R50,000 prize to fund a sustainable project within the winning councillor's ward.
After a month-long process, these are the four finalists who have submitted their nomination as per the requirements set out. They are:

The award ceremony will take place at the KC107.7 28th Anniversary Banquet on 27 September 2024 at the prestigious Nederburg Wine Estate.
