Drakenstein Municipality was awarded the Excellence in Revenue Management Award at the recent Ontec User Conference 2024, for its exceptional leadership in driving revenue management through innovative utility solutions.
According to Ontec, a South African smart technology company, the Municipality's strategic implementation of prepayment vending has significantly enhanced the accuracy of billing and revenue collection. In partnership with Ontec, Drakenstein Municipality consistently achieved one of the highest prepayment electricity buying indexes, resulting in more than 93% of the prepayment electricity meter base purchasing every month.
The Municipality was also among the first in South Africa to complete the STS TID Rollover programme.
“We are thrilled to be receiving this award as our Chief Financial Officer and Financial Services teams have been working hard and have, over time, initiated and implemented clever and innovative solutions to achieve these results. The Excellence in Revenue Management Award is a wonderful and fitting recognition of their diligence and commitment," says Councillor Stephen Korabie, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality.
According to Ontec, Drakenstein Municipality was honoured for its “forward-thinking vision and dedication to excellence in revenue management, setting a benchmark for how local governments can improve financial performance while enhancing service quality for their residents".
The Municipality's focus on precision and transparency in its revenue processes – by way of, among others, its new My Municipal Meter app - empowers residents with insights into their consumption and spending. This not only ensures accurate billing, but also fosters responsible usage among consumers, contributing to better financial stability for the Municipality.
The Municipality's commitment to modernising revenue management has streamlined operations, reduced inefficiencies, and improved the overall financial health of the Municipality, according to Ontec.
