 | Be safe in extreme hot weather conditions

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning about extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions over the next few days. Daytime temperatures between 37°C and 42°C can be expected. Such weather conditions can have significant health impacts; therefore is it essential to take necessary precautions.
Please stay safe by following these important tips:
• 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially during the hottest hours. Dehydration can lead to heat-related illnesses.
• 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻: Use sunscreen with a high SPF. Re-apply sunscreen every two hours, especially if you are swimming or sweating.
• 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting and light-coloured clothing to help your body stay cool. A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses are also a great idea.
• 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: Try to avoid outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day, typically from 10:00 to 16:00. If you need to be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade.
• 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀: Familiarise yourself with the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. These can include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea and confusion. Seek medical attention if you or someone else experiences these symptoms.
• 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘆𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝘀 and be aware of heat advisories. If extreme heat is predicted, take extra precautions and be prepared.
