The new Drakenstein Municipality General Valuation Roll is available for public inspection from Thursday, 13 February 2025, to Monday, 24 March 2025. It is important for property owners to view the roll as their new property tax, which will be charged from 1 July 2025 onwards, will be based on this valuation.
Any property owner or interested party who wishes to lodge an objection against a property valuation must do so during this 30-day inspection period, ending on 24 March 2025. This public participation process is prescribed by the Local Government: Municipal Property Rates Act, No. 6 of 2004.
Drakenstein Municipality's new certified General Valuation Roll will be valid from the beginning of the Municipality's new financial year, 1 July 2025, until 30 June 2029.
“The Municipality is committed to conducting a fair and transparent valuation process," says Councillor Stephen Korabie, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality. “We encourage property owners to review their valuations and to participate actively in the objections and appeals processes. Compliance with legislative requirements, including timely publication of notices in the Provincial Gazette and media, is a priority for the Municipality."
Members of the public can view the Valuation Roll and valuations at:
- The Municipality's official website at Drakenstein Municipality's official website; and
- The following municipal offices during office hours (8:00 to 16:45 from Mondays to Thursdays, and 8:00 to 15:30 on Fridays):
- Paarl Civic Centre, Berg River Boulevard, Paarl, 7622;
- Wellington Civic Centre, Upper Pentz Street, Wellington, 7654;
- Gouda Municipal Offices, Malva Street, Gouda, 6820; and
- Saron Municipal Offices, Claremont Street, Saron, 6812.
The Municipality will be sending property owners listed in the Valuation Roll a copy of the notice pertaining to their property via ordinary mail or other appropriate means – as required under Section 49 of the Local Government: Municipal Property Rates Act. Notices will also be published in the Provincial Gazette and advertised in local newspapers for two consecutive weeks.
Lodging objections
Any person who wishes to lodge an objection in respect of any matter in, or omitted from, the Valuation Roll must do so by 24 March 2025. Objections must be submitted in the prescribed manner, which is either:
Important deadlines
The deadline for submitting objections is 24 March 2025. Late objections will not be considered. The contracted Municipal Valuer will be afforded the opportunity to review these objections until 29 April 2025.
Appeals process
If an objection is not resolved to the satisfaction of the property owner, the property owner can lodge an appeal between 30 April 2025 and 2 June 2025.
