It gives me great pleasure to welcome all riders, support teams, organisers, sponsors and spectators of the 2025 Absa Cape Epic Mountain Bike Race to Drakenstein.
As an official destination partner of this year's race, Drakenstein Municipality is proud to be associated with this iconic international sport event. The Absa Cape Epic has been dubbed the Tour de France of mountain biking and this is exactly where Drakenstein wants to make our mark, on the global stage, as a premier adventure sport tourism destination.
Drakenstein - covering the historic Winelands towns of Paarl and Wellington, as well as Mbekweni and the Gouda, Saron, Hermon and Simondium settlements - truly is a mecca of adventure sport. Our exquisite surroundings – with plenty of mountains and rivers – ensure that Drakenstein is every adventure sport lover's dream destination. Whether you get your kicks from mountain biking, rowing, trail running, hiking or paragliding, we have everything you need to have the thrill of a lifetime.
I wish all the brave riders of this year's Epic the very best on their gruelling eight-day journey. Our respective municipal teams have put in the hard work over the past months to ensure we make the experience of everyone involved in this year's Epic memorable.
To our own two colleagues, Justin van Niekerk and Kris Coetzee, who will be testing their mettle under the “#VisitPaarl – powered by Drakenstein Municipality" banner this year, be sure that we will be cheering you on and watching your progress with great interest.
We encourage all our visitors to enjoy every bit of what Paarl and Drakenstein have on offer – our friendly people and authentic hospitality, our unsurpassed natural splendour, our inspired restaurants and age-old wine farms, our breathtaking mountain biking, running and hiking trails, and so much more.
We invite you to tell your friends and family about this jewel called Paarl that we are so proud of.
