Fresh off its recent Gold Award win as the Best Municipality in the Western Cape for service excellence, Drakenstein Municipality has launched a powerful anthem designed to foster unity, promote local pride, and showcase the beauty of the area.
“We already have a world-class offering and felt it was time to complement it with a song of equal calibre,” says Councillor Stephen Korabie, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality. “The goal was to market Drakenstein, introduce people to its distinctive assets and create a sense of belonging among our residents.”
The song’s lyrics and melody reflect the spirit of Drakenstein, aiming to inspire both residents and visitors.
“We believe this song will plant a seed in others to want to live in this wonderful place. It is about shared identity — ‘My destiny, your destiny, our destiny’,” the Executive Mayor says.
Staying true to its commitment to excellence, the Municipality partnered with acclaimed South African artist Frieda van den Heever to write and compose the song. Her involvement ensured a professional and heartfelt production, supported by expert sound engineers and studio recordings.
“The final product is something everyone in Drakenstein can be truly proud of. The song captures our spirit and will stand the test of time,” says Dr Johan Leibbrandt, City Manager of Drakenstein Municipality.
Soon, the Drakenstein anthem will echo through the valley, as people of all ages memorise the words and sing along.
