 | Active fire at Laborie Estate: Drakenstein crews on the scene

20 December 2025Drakenstein Municipality's Fire and Rescue Services are currently attending to a fire that broke out at Laborie Estate in Paarl shortly after 12:00 PM today, Saturday, 20 December 2025.
Additional firefighting support from Stellenbosch Municipality, Cape Winelands District Municipalit, FPA and DFW Fire & Rescue NPC, has been deployed to the scene and is actively assisting in containing the fire.
The fire has already destroyed two structures: the Cucina Di Giovanni restaurant and the first wing of the accommodation facilities.
Firefighters are working to contain and extinguish the flames, with a strong focus on preventing the fire from spreading to the historic Manor House and the second accommodation wing. Helicopters have been deployed by FPA to support ground crews through aerial water drops.
Challenging wind conditions continue to complicate firefighting efforts; however, all teams remain fully mobilised and are working tirelessly to bring the fire under control as quickly and safely as possible.
The public is urged to keep the main road cleared.
