On Tuesday, 27 January 2026, Drakenstein Municipality's Fire and Rescue Services responded to a fire at the Paarl Hospital.
The fire was reported at 11:17, and by 12:00, our firefighters had successfully contained the blaze to the Day Hospital section of the provincial hospital. All occupants of the ground, first and second floors of the hospital were safely evacuated.
The Municipality's Fire and Rescue teams, together with our traffic and law enforcement officers and the South African Police Service, secured the area and supported operations.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the South African Police Service (SAPS). The Municipality is supporting the SAPS in their investigation.
