No extra fees allowed on prepaid electricity or water tokens

Drakenstein Municipality reminds all residents that spaza shops and other prepaid vendors are not permitted to charge any additional commission or transaction fees when selling prepaid electricity to customers. 

Customers should only pay the value shown on the prepaid electricity token. Any extra charges are illegal and constitute a vendor transgression. 

What is a vendor transgression? 

Vendor misconduct occurs when a vendor charges extra fees that are not reflected on the prepaid token receipt. 

How to report vendor transgressions: 

If you experience any transgression, please report it immediately: 

  1. Contact Drakenstein Municipality or our service provider, Ontec, at the numbers below
  2. Provide the vendor's name and address
  3. Provide details of the transaction:
    1. Amount requested by the vendor
    2. Amount you actually paid
  4. Keep all token slips or receipts as proof
