Make water-wise habits part of your daily routine

17 September 2026 | Press Releases

Following a drier-than-usual winter, current storage levels of the dams providing water to Drakenstein are at 73%.

Drakenstein Municipality and surrounding municipal areas continue to take proactive steps to protect our water supply. The Municipality is monitoring dam levels, water demand and rainfall forecasts and is considering water restrictions as an additional proactive measure.

Residents and businesses also play an important role by using water responsibly.

In Drakenstein, the current average household consumption stands at 487 litres per day, exceeding our target of 463 litres per household per day. See how your household can save that extra 24 litres per day in the image below.

The current water-wise usage guidelines applicable in Drakenstein prohibit, among others, using municipal water to hose down paved areas or wet down building sites. Please see the image below for the full water usage guidelines presently affecting residents and businesses.

Let's work together to lower our water consumption today so that we can safeguard Drakenstein's water supply for tomorrow.
