 | Drakenstein Municipality unveils restored Wall of Remembrance in Wellington
30 September 2026 | Press Releases |
Drakenstein Municipality officially unveiled the restored Wall of Remembrance at the Wellington Champagne Cemetery on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

The wall, which had suffered repeated vandalism over the years and extensive damage in 2025, has now been repaired, upgraded and secured to once again serve as a dignified memorial space for families and the community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Councillor Stephen Korabie, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, described the Wall of Remembrance as “a place where names, lives and legacies may be honoured".
He emphasised that remembrance is not a single moment, but an enduring part of life and thanked the Municipality's Cemeteries and Resorts team for their sterling work in restoring the wall.
The refurbishment included structural repairs, new fencing and security measures, benches for visitors and memorial stones engraved with the names of the deceased.
This R500 000 project reflects the Municipality's commitment to preserving dignity and providing a focal point for reflection and connection.
