Drakenstein Municipality to render humanitarian support to family of Rooiland gunshot victim 16 February 2023

Earlier today, the mother of Kiano Calvin Samuels who died tragically in Rooiland, Paarl East, on Tuesday, 7 February 2023, approached Alderman Conrad Poole, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, for assistance with her son’s funeral.
Alderman Poole met personally with Carol Samuels and again extended his and the Municipality’s condolences to her and her family.
As Ms Samuels is indigent, the Municipality will appoint an undertaker for the funeral and will also make a gravesite available. This is done at the request of the family.
The Municipality wants to emphasise that the independent, official investigation into Kiano’s death by the South African Police Service (SAPS) is still underway. The Municipality is giving its full support to the investigation and stresses that its humanitarian support should not be mistaken for an admission of guilt.
Alderman Poole has condemned any efforts by individuals or political parties to score cheap political points out of this sad event.
