In breakthrough and direct discussions today between Drakenstein Municipality and five (5) families whose illegal structures were removed from Rooiland, Paarl East, earlier this month, it was decided that the Municipality will issue the families on Monday with housing starter kits.

It was agreed that the five (5) families  will be resettled in the backyards of family and friends in the surrounding area.

The Municipality decided to communicate directly with the  families – not via any political party or community representative.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the Municipality and the  Rooiland community will take hands in cleaning the area, and clear it of illegal dumping.

This follows after municipal waste management teams were previously denied access to the area.

A clean environment is a healthy environment, and the Municipality relies on the community to join us in our efforts to keep Drakenstein clean and beautiful – a place we all can be proud to live in.
