Drakenstein Municipality welcomes delegates from City of Neumarkt, Germany

04 April 2023 | Press Releases

These delegates are visiting the municipal area to discuss current as well as future projects to be implemented under the Climate and Sustainability Partnership between the two cities.

The City of Neumarkt and Drakenstein Municipality has an existing Climate and Sustainability Partnership in place that originated in 2014. Over the years the two cities have collaborated under the Masterplan for the Partnership, the Joint Programme of Action (JPA). The 3rd Generation JPA (2023) was recently finalised and adopted by the Drakenstein Municipal Council in March 2023.

“The Joint Programme of Action provides an exciting opportunity for Drakenstein Municipality to gain access to an international network of resources that we can tap into to ensure growth for our communities,” says Executive Mayor, Alderman Conrad Poole. “The nature of this partnership morphed more into a broader sustainability partnership, rather than collaborating only around climate change matters. We are pleased that Neumarkt is still committed to this working relationship after nine years and we look forward to implementing this updated JPA over the next few years with them.”

The updated JPA covers themes such as Biodiversity, Climate Change Adaptation, Green Economy, Fair Trade, Education for Sustainable Development, and Energy.

The delegation will visit a few projects in the municipal area implemented under the partnership over the next few days. Discussions on commencing new projects will also be on the agenda this week.
