14 April 2023 | Press Releases

On 13 April, twenty-two (22) beneficiaries received the keys to their new homes as part of the Vlakkeland Housing Project in Paarl. Alderman Conrad Poole, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, had the honour of handing over the houses.

“Today has been made possible thanks to the excellent collaboration and teamwork between the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements (WCDoHS) and Drakenstein Municipality. Ownership of property creates a feeling of safety for residents – a place that offers a sense of stability in their lives. It is my great honour to hand over these houses on behalf of the Municipality, where we care about the wellbeing of our communities,” said Alderman Poole.

“These handovers are only the start of more houses to follow. We realise how important it is to further develop our city, and to create opportunities to support Drakenstein’s economic growth.”

The Executive Mayor thanked the WCDoHS and Tertius Simmers (Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure) for their role in making this project possible, and contributing to Drakenstein Municipality’s vision to be a city of excellence.

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) Rita Andreas, also visited and engaged with the beneficiaries as they took occupancy of their brand-new homes. Gerald Esau, Executive Director for Community Services at Drakenstein Municipality, and Avron Appollis, MMC for Public Safety at Drakenstein Municipality were also present.
