Weather warning for Level 9 on 24 September 2023

24 September 2023 | Press Releases

Following a Provincial Disaster Management meeting with various stakeholders on the weather warning for Level 9 storms expected tonight in Drakenstein and other areas, the City of Cape Town is currently slowly releasing water out of the Wemmershoek Dam to lower dam levels.
The Wemmerhoek Dam’s Spillway Gate is currently open at Stage 2 to manage the changing water levels in preparation for heavy rainfall. If necessary, the Spillway Gate will further be opened to Stage 3.
Drakenstein Municipality would like to remind our residents to please be cautious and stay clear of the Berg River banks.
Some homeless individuals have already been moved to safer areas.
The Municipality’s Roads and Stormwater team is monitoring all the high-risk flooding areas and our Electro-Technical Services team is monitoring our substations.
The Municipality urges all motorists to take extra precautions on our roads.
Our Emergency Response team is on high alert with secondary teams on stand-by.
If you would like to report an incident, please contact 080 131 3553 (toll free), Fire Services on 021 872 2323 (strictly for fires and emergencies) or your ward councillor http://www.drakenstein.gov.za/.../Contact-a-Councillor.aspx
