Drakenstein Municipality assures our residents that we are working around the clock to keep services up and running and ensure the safety of everyone in the current severe weather conditions. View the important contact details at the end of this post.
We want to remind our residents to please be cautious and stay clear of river banks.
Take note of the following updates, and check our Facebook page for regular communication:
- Road closures: Check this page for regular updates.
- Residences nearby the Berg River: Our teams are constantly assessing the situation and are on standby should anyone need to be evacuated. We will communicate directly via SMS with potentially affected residents.
- Homeless persons: We have been and will continue to approach homeless persons to move them to safer areas and provide shelter and food.
- Wemmershoek Dam update: The Wemmershoek Dam’s Spillway Gate is managed by the Department of Water and Sanitation and the City of Cape and is currently opened at Stage 5.
- Parks: Our teams are attending to fallen trees.
- Roads: Our Roads and Stormwater Teams are patrolling hotspot areas.
- Electricity: Our teams are working 24/7 to restore various power outages in the municipal area. We are also monitoring our substations, and our teams are on standby to take steps to switch off substations if absolutely necessary. We will post electricity updates here.
- Water and sanitation: Our teams are attending to various pipebursts in the municipal area and remain on high alert to prevent service interruptions.
