With the national matric exams starting on Monday, 30 October 2023, Drakenstein's libraries are now open to matriculants for study support. As Drakenstein Municipality, we recognise the challenges students face during exams and have created study-friendly spaces for them in our libraries.

"We offer matriculants study guides and online access to past exam papers and answers, provided by the Western Cape Education Department (WCED). We have also created comfortable study areas within our libraries and posted notices to inform other library users that there are learners who are studying," says Lorensia Thomas, Manager of Library and Information Services at Drakenstein Municipality.

According to Thomas, some libraries also facilitate peer support groups, where academically strong students tutor their peers struggling with specific subjects. In addition, Drakenstein's libraries offer Wi-Fi services, and matrics interested in applying for tertiary education can access the Internet.

“We are also asking retired teachers to assist matriculants who struggle with certain subjects or questions. Because studying can be tiring, we treat learners to a nice cup of coffee or something cold to drink," Thomas said.

For home study, matriculants can access past exam papers at https://wcedonline.westerncape.gov.za.
