17 November 2023Drakenstein Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services are closely monitoring the situation at the Wellington Wastewater Treatment Works where smouldering at the maturation ponds is causing an unpleasant odour in the Wellington area. This followed after a fire had spread to the maturation.

As the specific terrain cannot be accessed by our firefighting trucks, the Municipality’s water and wastewater services teams are busy flooding the ponds to properly and fully extinguish the fire.
The Municipality can assure the community that the odour does not pose any health risk to residents.
