Let us stand together and say no to gender-based violence

24 November 2023 | Press Releases

As we start this years international campaign of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, which is held annually from 25 November to 10 December, I want to ask the residents of Drakenstein to join me and Drakenstein Municipality in standing up against gender-based violence (GBV).

Standing up for someone who is a victim of GBV does not necessarily mean you have to confront the perpetrator, but you can call the police and support the victim by getting them the help they need.

Our women and children are precious and we should respect and value them in our homes and in our communities. Let us not be silent when we have the power to stand up for those in need. Let us be the voice of those who feel trapped and forced to keep quiet.

Drakenstein, let us all stand together and say no to gbv, not only for 16 days but for 365 days.

Contact your local police station when you or someone you know is a victim of GBV.

Alderman Conrad Poole
Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality
