From 6:00 to 9:00 this morning, Drakenstein Municipality’s two-day-long summer tourism launch campaign continued with a live radio broadcast from Laborie Estate in Paarl.
Aden Thomas and Tara Lee from the Heart FM Breakfast team are exploring the heart of Paarl and Wellington this week, treating listeners to an inside look at this unmined destination’s sun-kissed vineyards, panoramic views, authentic hospitality, and the rich culture of the Winelands.
“It’s all part of exploring the best of the Cape. We’re encouraging tourists to reroute to Paarl-Wellington this summer, instead of doing their same old, same old holiday this year,” says Cheryl Phillips, Senior Manager: Economic Development and Tourism, Drakenstein Municipality.
The broadcast is showcasing Paarl-Wellington as a tourism destination catering to a mishmash of interests and tastes – from sports, the outdoors, to local history, culture, and even pampering. Listeners are treated to the insights of Amy Jones, Paarl-born singer-songwriter and multi-talented musician; Rykie van Tonder, GM of the Laborie Estate; and Annelize Stroebel, representing Paarl Tourism and Wine.
After this morning’s live broadcast, the Heart FM team went on a tour of Paarl, munching on a Gatsby and Jive at Die Stoepe. Next up was a fun visit to the James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington where Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky is distilled, South Africa’s first whisky produced from a single grain.
They also met up with the folks at E-Zee Bikes who specialise in exhilarating e-bike tours in the Winelands. The day ended with a wine tasting at the new Jacaranda Wine and Guest Farm, and a rendezvous at the award-winning Val du Charron Wine and Leisure Estate in Wellington.
