#TIP 3: Never leave cooking unattended
🍲 Stay alert: Always monitor the stove, oven, or braai fire to respond quickly to any potential fire hazards.
🍲 Use a timer: Set a timer to remind yourself to check on cooking regularly.
🍲 Don't leave the braai area before all the coals are dead: Braai fires should always be extinguished and allowed to cool before everyone leaves the braai area.
🍲Have a lid handy: Keep a lid or a baking sheet nearby when cooking on the stovetop. In case of a small grease fire, you can quickly cover the pan to smother the flames and turn off the heat.

#TIP 4: Teach your children about fire safety
It is important for everyone – including children – to be informed, stay alert and know how to call for help.
🧑🏾🚒 Teach your children what to do if their clothes catch fire: Stop, Drop, and Roll. They should stop moving, drop to the ground, cover their face with their hands, and roll back and forth to extinguish the flames.
🧑🏾🚒 You can also teach your kids to stay low to the ground if there is smoke in the air. Smoke rises, so the air near the floor is usually clearer, and easier to breathe in.
🧑🏾🚒 Make sure your children understand that matches and lighters are tools, not toys. Stress the importance of not playing with fire.
🧑🏾🚒 Don't overload outlets: Teach your kids not to overload electrical outlets. Explain to them that using too many appliances in one outlet can lead to electrical fires.

🏠 Store flammable materials like paper, cloth, cleaning products and paint away from heat sources. Keep them in well-ventilated areas and follow safety guidelines for storage.
🏠 Check electrical cords for damage and replace frayed or worn-out ones. Unplug appliances when not in use. Do not overload wall plugs and multiplugs as it may overheat and start a fire.
🏠 Install smoke alarms. Test them monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
