Deputy Executive Mayor, Alderman Gert Combrink, stands in as Mayor of Drakenstein

Alderman Conrad Poole was voted out as Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality at a Municipal Council meeting held earlier today (Wednesday, 28 February 2024). This followed a motion of no confidence in the Executive Mayor.

Out of 62 councillors present, in a secret ballot vote, 34 voted in favour of the motion, 26 against and two councillors abstained.

The motion to remove Alderman Poole from office was brought by Councillor Moutie Richards, leader of the African National Congress in Council, and signed by most of the opposition parties.

Alderman Gert Combrink, Deputy Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, will act as Executive Mayor until a new executive mayor is elected at a special Council meeting within two weeks.
