Drakenstein Municipality ensures election poster compliance
Drakenstein Municipality's Law Enforcement officials have started to remove illegal or untidy election posters in its municipal area - in line with the municipal bylaw.
The Municipal Electoral Officer has communicated the bylaw stipulations for the display of election posters to all political parties on numerous occasions.
All parties was reminded and urged to keep to the rules. If not, the Municipality's Law Enforcement officials would start removing posters that are in contravention of the bylaw on 7 May 2024.
All election posters need to adhere to the following conditions:
- Before displaying election posters, the political party must pay Drakenstein Municipality a deposit of R5 000, of which 85% is returned to the party should they remove the posters within 10 days following election day;
- The posters may not be larger than 80cm x 50cm and must have a firm backing. They should not cause any damage to the poles when erected;
- The posters should be placed 2m above ground level;
- One poster per political party per pole is allowed;
- No posters may be placed on trees, traffic and existing advertising signs, traffic lights, pedestrian islands, municipal buildings or fire hydrant identification signs. They should also not obstruct the view of traffic lights or traffic signs; and
• The political party should maintain their posters, and remove or replace damaged ones.
Posters that have been removed are being kept safe and can be obtained from the Municipality. Parties may display these again, in the correct way, provided that they have paid the necessary deposits.
