Cape Winelands Safety Summit: ‘Working towards a safer, more prosperous region for all’

“The Cape Winelands region is renowned for its beauty, rich heritage, and world-class wine production. However, we know that safety concerns can impact our residents, visitors, and businesses. That is why this summit is so crucial," said Councillor Stephen Korabie, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, as he welcomed guests to the Cape Winelands Safety Summit last week.


​Convened at the Nantes Estate in Northern Paarl on Wednesday, 8 May 2024, the summit brought together public safety experts from the municipalities of the Cape Winelands, Drakenstein, Breede Valley, Witzenberg, Langeberg and Stellenbosch. The event's aimed to foster collaboration and innovation in addressing safety concerns across the region.

“By coming together, we can share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions to address our safety challenges. Our expert speakers will share insights on various safety aspects - from crime prevention and emergency response to community engagement and social initiatives," said Executive Mayor Korabie.

The keynote address was delivered by Reagen Allen, Western Cape Minister for Police Oversight and Community Safety, who emphasised the importance of collaboration in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of communities.


The summit featured presentations by safety experts representing each municipality, covering diverse topics such as crime prevention, emergency response, community engagement, and social initiatives. These sessions were followed by group discussions aimed at knowledge exchange.

Councillor Avron Appollis, MMC for Public Safety at Drakenstein Municipality, thanked the speakers, organisers, volunteers, and attendees for their contribution towards advancing safety initiatives in the Cape Winelands.
