Overview

The Municipality’s Rural Development division is responsible for facilitating a sustainable rural economy through partnership and innovation in order to give effect to the municipality’s vision of creating “A city of excellence”.

The rural wards of the Municipality are identified as follows:

Rural Development works closely with organs of state, the business community, rural communities and non-government organisations to implement programmes informed by empirical evidence and research data from the IDP.

The programmes are geared towards the development of initiatives that focus on the following identified priorities:

• Infrastructure (Community halls, emergency services etc)

• Social development (Food security, youth development etc)

• Economic development (Business plan development, job creation opportunities etc)

• Social cohesion (Land reform, farm worker and farm owner relationships)
