17th Fair Trade Cities and Towns International Conference

Overview and Theme:

In 2020, Drakenstein Municipality became the first town in Southern Africa to self-declare as a Fair Trade City, making it the fourth on the continent. This declaration signifies the Municipality’s support for goods produced using fair labour practices and environmentally friendly and ethical production processes.

In 2023, the Municipality was selected to host the first Fair Trade Cities and Towns International Conference in Africa. The event aims to highlight the host city’s best practices in implementing various projects and initiatives that contribute to the success of being a Fair Trade City.

The conference is themed “Cultivating Equitable Economies”
