Early this morning, Drakenstein Municipality's Fire Services responded to an incident involving the leak of a hazardous substance at the corner of Oosterland and Driebergen Streets in Paarl. The area was immediately cordoned off and all on-site personnel were evacuated. The spill has since been contained and safely disposed of. No injuries have been reported. The matter is being investigated to determine the exact cause of the leak. The Municipality's Environmental Management section will also investigate the incident to determine the extent of any possible damage to the environment, and if so, follow the necessary reporting procedures to the Provincial Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning.
