Drakenstein Municipality's 'city of excellence' gets fresh look
31 October 2017
Drakenstein Municipality,
the Western Cape's largest local municipality outside the City of Cape
Town in terms of resident numbers and budget size, is starting to sport a
fresh look and feel this week. The Municipality – comprising the Cape
Winelands towns of Paarl, Wellington, Gouda, Hermon, Saron and Simondium
– will officially launch its brand new logo on Wednesday, 1 November
2017.
Rolling
out over the next couple of months, this process will include the
replacement of Drakenstein Municipality's old logo on municipal
buildings, vehicles, as well as on signage, accounts, stationery and
uniforms. The implementation of the new logo will not have significant
additional cost implications for the Municipality and its residents, as
the majority of its old signage had to be replaced due to aging and wear
and tear.
On
1 November 2017, the Municipality will also launch a faster, more
responsive website with a fresh, simplified design. Tailored to
different devices, www.drakenstein.gov.za will be much easier to navigate.
“It's
our first new logo in 17 years, and it's already creating quite a buzz
among our staff and Drakenstein's residents," says Councillor Conrad
Poole, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein. “Accentuating our new vision of
being a 'city of excellence', the logo embodies Drakenstein's strengths:
our agriculture, tourism, history, business, investment, education and
sport achievements and riches; our region's exquisite beauty; and our
friendly, warm-hearted and hardworking people – the perfect formula for
growing a city of excellence."
The
Municipal Council of Drakenstein adopted this new vision, together with
its secondary city status on 31 May 2017. With an annual budget of R2.8
billion and a combined resident figure of 280 195, Drakenstein
Municipality is the 10th largest secondary city in South
Africa. It is also one of the two top-rated financially well-managed
municipalities in the country.
“We're
already recognised as one of South Africa's leading municipalities,
contributing approximately 0.5% to the national Gross Domestic Product
(GDP)," says Dr Johan Leibbrandt, City Manager of Drakenstein
Municipality. “We're now embracing the challenge of upping our levels of
service delivery even further for the benefit of our residents and
visitors. Our new logo gives Drakenstein Municipality a crisp,
streamlined look as we continue this quest for excellence, together with
our staff and the Drakenstein community."
Drakenstein
is on the rise and while its city status empowers the Municipality to
plan and deliver services on city level, one of its main objectives is
to grow Drakenstein as a preferred investment destination. The
Municipality has already introduced dedicated internal structures and
processes to speed up investment and job creation proposals and
projects.
“Our
newly founded Development and Investment Forum, created specifically to
stimulate development, has so far received 10 investment applications
to the value of R2.5 billion. These will create approximately 800
sustainable job opportunities over the next five years," concludes Dr
Leibbrandt.
